Maura Smith & Slug Genus: The Magellan Colonies Entymology:Maura Smith is the sole survivor of a group of colonists who were investigating the Asteroid Belts in the Magellan Cloud. They had not expected the large variety of vicious life forms already living there, and were beset by a group of ape-like creatures. Maura was left for dead, but saved by the strange slug-like parasite that attached itself to the back of her head, plugging directly into, and feeding off her nervous system. The creature, which she named Slug, repulsed her at first, but with the help of the latent telepathic abilities which it unlocked she was able to evade the ape creatures and make an escape back to civilised space. She has since become accustomed to Slug and her gifts, and uses them in the service of the Prime Cell of the H.I.V.E. Insect Traits:Maura/Slug are telepathic, and able to sense, read, influence or shut down other minds at range with a thought. Slug is capable of independent travel as a thoughtform, although this 'astral projection' leaves Maura drained and unable to function. He will often project if she is badly hurt, but can only hold his thought-form together for brief periods in these situations.
