Age: unknown
Point of Origin: Ukraine, Russia
Powers: Magical spell-casting, vampiric life theft, self-rejuvenation. When temporarily young, Baba Yaga displays an almost superhuman strength and vigour. Skills: Herbal knowledge, occult knowledge Threat Level: 5 Russian folk-legend tells of Baba Yaga, a terrifying old crone who lives in the woods in a hut that travels on giant chicken's legs, and of how she flies through the night in her giant mortar and pestle. Yet despite her bizarre and repulsive appearance and behaviour, she will help those brave enough to seek her out. Connections between these myths and the superhuman active in the 1960's as part of the N.Y.E.T. programme are unclear, particularly in a political climate that denies the very existence of magic. Neither is it particularly clear how or why Baba Yaga became involved with this programme, which considering her ability to tamper with human minds, could be something of a worry for her Soviet masters. She seems to be pursuing her own agenda within the system for now, as witnessed by her interference in the creation of Kalinka. |
